Our idea was to capture the diverse array of jewelry, particularly rings in the collections
amongst our peers and family. The idea is to build a digital collection of diverse types of
rings, differing in metal used, chunkiness, ornate detail, as well as symbolism (ie. wedding
ring, promise ring etc). We’re both people vested in fashion, and we took inspiration from
previous class machine models devoted to fashion.
Cailin and I worked closely together to capture a diverse array of rings from both our
personal collections, as well as those of family and friends. While the both of us collect
rings, we often found it difficult to find uniquely identifiable pieces. A major factor of the
data collection process was also finding rings that are different from each other, so this
meant we had to prioritize pieces with unique characteristics, such as chunkiness,
ornateness, material, and structure.
